Reilly Cooper
I'm a microbial ecologist and computational biologist.
I like working with microbes and DNA. In particular, I want to work on problems in agriculture, climate change, and planetary health.
I've worked at a few different places:- Arcadia Science, using computational tools to find new avenues for therapeutic development
- I helped start Athos Bioindustries, whose team is currently in IBNY's 8th cohort using microbes to turn mining waste into valuable materials
- Created microbial community products to replace phosphorus fertilizer at Peko
- Led microbial ecology R&D at Upward Farms, an indoor aquaponic vertical farming startup
I received my Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Clay Cressler's lab, understanding how microbes are transmitted from mother to offspring.
Some other notes:- I make electronic and ambient music
- I love long distance swimming, so if you know of any 5k+ races in interesting places I'd love to hear about them
- Email me at my Github username at gmail dot com
- If you're in the Bay Area and want to collaborate on interesting biological ideas (particularly in the areas at the top!), please get in touch
